Handoff brief: browser-based dev/testing session

Context for a fresh CLI Claude Code session picking up BrainTool work. Prior session did code review/fixes via static analysis only (no live browser access — see Browser note below). Repo is clean and fully pushed as of master @ 48f8d07.

What landed this session (all pushed to master)

  1. Session-node drag-and-drop into the topic tree (6d4cdd5) — completes bidirectional session↔app D&D. Dropping a session node (TAB/GROUP) onto the topic tree saves or re-files it (never moves the session node itself — it’s owned by the syncToBrowser reconciler and doesn’t serialize to org). New: saveSessionNodeToApp() in tableManager.js. Also added a global rule: leaves need a topic parent — canMoveTo/canAcceptDrop now reject top-level drops of non-topics, for both session and app nodes.
  2. ESLint added (de6c7a4) for app/, extension/, utilities/ — dev-only, no build step, no bundler. Run npm run lint before any commit touching those dirs (this is a saved memory/feedback rule now). Config is deliberately split per actual HTML-page script groupings, not one shared pool — see eslint.config.js comments.
  3. Two real bugs the linter caught, now fixed (c4e278b):
    • fileManager.authorizeGAPI() referenced gapiLoadOkay/Fail/gisLoadOkay/Fail bare — never exported from gDriveFileManager.js. GDrive connect flow was throwing on first use. Fixed, but not yet manually verified live.
    • subscriptionManager.js referenced undeclared BTId in 3 spots (Stripe portal, fake-payment write, importKey()). Manual license-key entry was throwing. Fixed, not yet manually verified live.
  4. Console admin tooling restored (48f8d07) — window.initializeFirebase re-exposed for the createAnonymousFreeCustomer console snippet (free license key generation), broken by the ES6 module migration since module scope isn’t window-visible.
  5. Design doc (resources/BrainToolDesign.org) updated throughout — Session DnD section, new Phase 6 (finish extension/’s ES6 module migration — it’s currently half classic-scripts/half-modules, which is why two of the lint-caught issues existed as dead code paths in summarizerPopup.js).

Top priority: manual verification needed

None of items 1–4 above have been click-tested in a real loaded extension. Priority order:

  1. GDrive connect (first-time, before window.gapi is cached) — was a hard crash.
  2. License key import via Settings.
  3. Session→app drag: unsaved TAB, unsaved GROUP, already-saved TAB (re-file), bookmarks-bar drop, notes-preserved case. Full checklist is in the design doc’s “Testing checklist” under the Session DnD section.
  4. Top-level-drop rejection (drag a leaf to top level — should bounce; drag a topic/group to top level — should still create a new top-level topic).

Known open bugs (not touched this session, from dailyLog :BT: backlog)

Session-manager cluster, all still open: double-click on session node closes tab instead of selecting it; dropping a topic to top-level-below-Session opens all its windows; dropped tab into managed TG not recognized as saved by popup (no notes section); popup title edit not reflected in Topic Manager; notes lost after nav-away-and-back on a saved tab; delete-to-Trash isn’t undo-able.

ESLint status

6 remaining lint errors, all in the parked Summarizer feature (background.js, summarizerPopup.js) — not blocking, low priority. Run npm run lint to see current state.

Browser automation note

Live browser testing must run from this local interactive terminal (claude --chrome / /chrome). A remote/cloud Claude Code session cannot drive a browser at all right now — every navigate call fails with “Navigation to this domain is not allowed” on all domains, no approval dialog ever renders. This is a confirmed, currently-open upstream bug (GitHub anthropics/claude-code #66074 and related), not a config issue — don’t waste time re-diagnosing it if it comes up again.
